Sanofi, Medtronic form diabetes alliance to improve patient experience, outcomes

Sanofi, a global healthcare provider, and Medtronic, a global medical technology provider, have entered into a global strategic alliance in diabetes, aimed at improving patient experience and outcomes for people with diabetes around the world. The alliance will initially focus on two key priorities: the development of drug-device combinations and delivery of care management services to improve adherence, simplify insulin treatment and help people with diabetes better manage their condition.

Medtronic, a global medical technology, services and solutions company, has agreed to acquire Covidien, a global healthcare technology and medical supplies provider, in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at $93.22 per Covidien share, or a total of approximately $42.9 billion, based on Medtronic’s closing stock price of $60.70 per share on June 13.

FDA approves expanded indication for certain pacemakers and defibrillators

The FDA has approved an application from Medtronic for revised labeling for two cardiac resynchronization pacemakers (CRT-P) and eight cardiac resynchronization defibrillators (CRT-D), expanding the indication for use to patients with atrioventricular (AV) block and less severe heart failure.
