Prize4Life launches PRO-ACT, largest ALS trials database ever created

Prize4Life, a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating discovery of treatments and a cure for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), launched the PRO-ACT (Pooled Resource Open-Access ALS Clinical Trials) database, the largest ALS clinical trial database ever created.

Geron discontinues GRN100, cuts 43 workers

Geron, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based biopharmaceutical company developing first-in-class therapies for cancer, has discontinued development of GRN1005, its peptide-drug conjugate designed to treat cancers in the brain. Going forward, the company will focus on the development of imetelstat, its telomerase inhibitor, in hematologic myeloid malignancies and in patients with solid tumors that have short telomeres.

New phone app charts cases of infectious diseases

Curis, a Lexington, Mass.-based drug development company focused on targeted small molecule drug candidates for cancer treatment, has licensed from San Francisco-based Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, exclusive worldwide rights for the development and commercialization of GDC-0917, a small molecule that is designed to promote cancer cell death by antagonizing inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) proteins.
