Covance-BML lab to expand in Japan

CRO Covance of Princeton, N.J., and BML, a Japanese laboratory testing company, will expand the Covance-BML Clinical Trial Laboratory (CB Trial Lab) in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, to enhance the capacity and capabilities in the region. The companies, which opened the lab together in 2010 as part of a five-year agreement, will launch several new expansion-related services this month.

Covance to be exclusive drug development provider for BioPontis

Covance has signed a three-year, exclusive integrated drug development agreement with BioPontis Alliance to manage early development of scientific discoveries from academia. Covance will become BioPontis Alliance’s sole provider of drug development services, including discovery support, pre-clinical, bioanalytical, CMC, clinical, central labs and commercialization.

Cetero Research has reported two new appointments to its senior management team. Michael C. Fillios was named chief administrative officer, with leadership responsibility and oversight of human resources, information technology, project management, marketing and client services. David Coggin was named vice president, biometrics. He will oversee the operational management of PK/PD, data management, miostatistics and medical writing services.

Theorem Clinical Research, previously Omnicare Clinical Research, has named Marc Hoffman, MD, senior vice president and general manager for their newly formed pharmaceutical development business unit. In his new role, Hoffman will have strategic oversight for Theorem’s core CRO operation, including project management, clinical monitoring, SMART (site management and patient recruitmenT), and pharmaceutics. He will also oversee the company’s medical operations.

Survey: Covance central laboratory services ranks first

Covance central laboratory services ranked first, by a wide margin, in an independent global survey of 550 physician investigators participating in clinical trials. The majority (54%) of the study participants named Covance central laboratory services as their "most preferred" central laboratory, with investigators citing Covance three times more often than the nearest competitor. Investigators also reported having the "best overall relationship" with Covance, rating it 8.4 on a scale of 1 to 10.
