BioClinica Revenues Flat in ‘09

BioClinica reported its fourth quarter and full-year 2009 earnings earlier this week. Service revenues for the quarter were almost flat from the fourth quarter 2008 at $14.9 million. Income from continuing operations was $943,000, or $0.06 per fully diluted share, compared with income of $1.7 million for the same period 2008.

BioClinica Buys Tourtellotte Solutions for $2.1M

BioClinica’s September buying spree continued this week with the announcement that the Newtown, Pa.-based contract research organization (CRO) had purchased technology company Tourtellotte Solutions for $2.1 million in cash, plus additional payments in the form of up to $3.2 million in cash and 350,000 shares of BioClinica common stock if certain milestones are met.

BioClinica’s revenues and profits continued to fall in the second quarter, with net income sliced by half from the same period in 2008 to $529,000. Diluted earnings per share were $0.04 compared with $0.10 in the second quarter 2008. Revenues for the Newtown, Pa.-based contract research organization (CRO) also dropped 11% to $17.1 million.

eClinical vendor etrials Worldwide cut its net loss for the first quarter 2009 in half from the same period 2008 by reducing operating expenses, the company said. Net loss for Q1 was $960,000, compared with $2 million in Q1 2008—and $5.5 million in the fourth quarter 2008.

BioClinica, the recently renamed and rebranded Bio-Imaging Technologies, reported a 31% drop in profit for the first quarter 2009 compared with the same period last year. Net income decreased from $1.14 million, or $0.09 per diluted share, in 2008, to $786,000, or $0.05 per diluted share, for Q1 2009.

Bio-Imaging Technologies Changes Name to BioClinica, Expects to Acquire More Companies

Now that Newtown, Pa.-based contract research organization Bio-Imaging Technologies has completed its integration of Phoenix Data Systems, which it acquired in March 2008, the company has changed its name to BioClinica. The new name also marks the start of an active acquisition phase for the 450-employee company, which plans to acquire more companies in the clinical research services space.
