Drug discovery services market to reach $16.6B in 2015

A new report by visiongain, an independent media company based in London, predicts that the world market for drug discovery outsourcing will reach $16.6 billion in 2015. That revenue forecast and others appear in “DrugDiscovery Outsourcing: World Market 2013-2023,” published in November 2012.

Aptuit and GSK extend strategic partnership

Aptuit, a pharmaceutical services company, has reached an agreement on a multi-year extension of its strategic partnership with global healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for dedicated drug development work at The Aptuit Center for Drug Discovery & Development in Verona, Italy. The Verona site—formerly known as GSK’s Medicines Research Centre—was acquired by Aptuit from GSK in 2010.

Catalent acquires Aptuit’s Clinical Trial Supplies business

Catalent Pharma Solutions has agreed to acquire the Clinical Trial Supplies business of Aptuit for cash consideration of $410 million on a cash and debt free basis. The acquisition will substantially expand Catalent's Development & Clinical Services business, transforming it into the #2 provider globally in clinical supply solutions, and adding important development and clinical manufacturing expertise and capacity. Following the close of the transaction, Aptuit will focus on its market-leading integrated discovery to mid-phase development business.

Marken names interim head of clinical trials distrubtion

Marken, a global provider of clinical supply chain services, has named Frank J. Wright its interim president of the clinical trials distribution business unit. Wright will be responsible for growing the business, enhancing the team and identifying possible investment opportunities. He will also assist in recruiting the permanent president of the business unit.

Eurofins AvTech Names New President

Eurofins AvTech Laboratories, a Portage, MI-based contract research organization (CRO), has appointed three senior-level executives to its management team. Dr. Raymond Farmen was named president. Farmen is responsible for general management, technical and profit/loss decisions for the company. He also will provide technical and scientific direction for method development, bioanalytical, product testing and animal health areas. In addition to Farmen, Dr. Steven Weber has joined AvTech’s senior management team as director, Bioanalytical, and Leon Clark, Jr. is director, Animal Health.

Aptuit Founding CEO Resigns

Greenwich, Conn.-based Aptuit, a contract research organization (CRO), named Timothy (Tim) C. Tyson, a pharmaceutical industry veteran, as executive chairman and acting CEO, replacing Michael A. Griffith, the company’s founder and CEO since 2005. The company said Griffith resigned to pursue other opportunities.
