Alzheimer's Association articles call for global research collaboration

A global, collaborative research effort based on public-private partnerships, similar to the projects in the 1950s and 1960s that successfully reduced polio worldwide, will advance the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease, according to two articles written by leaders of the Alzheimer's Association and published in the July issue of Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association.

Investigational drugs chosen for major Alzheimer's prevention trial

Scientists have selected the first investigational drugs for a worldwide Alzheimer's disease prevention trial. The pioneering study, expected to start by early 2013, initially will test three promising drugs—gantenerumab, solanezumab and an unnamed BACE inhibitor—each designed to target Alzheimer's in different ways.

Alzheimer's treatment study reports three years with no decline in memory and function

The first report of long-term (three-year) stabilization of Alzheimer's disease symptoms with IVIG, including no decline on measures of cognition, memory, daily functioning and mood, was reported at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference 2012 (AAIC 2012) in Vancouver.

Clinical trials clarify role of exercise in cognitive function and dementia

Four studies reported at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference 2012 describe the ability of targeted exercise training to promote improved mental functioning and reduced risk for cognitive impairment and dementia in cognitively healthy older adults and those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
