Despite the troubled economy, the struggling eClinical industry and operating losses totaling $38 million, eClinical company Medidata filed an initial public offering in an effort to raise $86 million. The number of shares and share price for the offering have not yet been determined.

The Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) has expanded its online networking and educational resources. ACRP’s new online community, which launched Monday, includes an interactive member directory that allows members to create individualized profiles, groups and blogs; as well as an online encyclopedia (or Wiki), new eGroup options, and a searchable resource library, to which members can post documents and tools.

Contract research organization (CRO) Bio-Imaging Technologies has sold off its CapMed division, which provides personal health management solutions to hospitals, employers and pharmaceutical companies, in order to better focus on the CRO’s core clinical trials business.

etrials Reports $6.1M Loss

Morrisville, N.C.-based eClinical company etrials reported another quarter of loss, with net losses for the third quarter at $6.1 million, compared with $1.3 million for the same period last year and $2.2 million in net losses for the second quarter of 2008.

Pittsburgh, Pa.-based ePRO company invivodata launched its new version of its EPX management system: EPX ePRO Management System, Version 5.0. The system is web-based and has the capability to manage site performance, patient enrollment and compliance, and data integrity in real-time. The system can also generate user-customized reports and changeable dashboard views. It has an e-mail alert system that signals when items need action taken and boasts the industry’s only electronic data clarification form (EDCF) system to resolve discrepancies in data.
