Takara Bio, a global biotechnology company based in Shiga, Japan, has chosen Genedata Expressionist for Genomic Profiling as its key software platform for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Genedata, headquartered in Switzerland, is a provider of advanced software solutions for drug discovery and life science research.

DSG, OPKO Health ink agreement for trial management solution

OPKO Health, a multinational pharmaceutical and diagnostics company, has selected Malvern, Pa.-based DSG’s eCaseLink integrated suite for self-building of harmonized electronic data capture (EDC), IWRS, drug safety event capture and case reporting and CTMS systems. BloodCenter of Wisconsin's Diagnostic Laboratories has announced the availability of a comprehensive cancer mutation HemeOnc Panel using next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology. The NGS panel is designed to detect variants in 30 genes that are either prognostic or diagnostic for 10 different myeloid hematologic malignancies.

Abbott has entered into an agreement to purchase Topera, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based, private, venture-backed medical device company focused on developing innovative electrophysiology technologies to improve the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, one of the most common heart rhythm disorders in the world. Through this acquisition, Abbott enters the catheter-based electrophysiology market, an approximately $3 billion global market that has been growing annually at double-digit rates.

Cepheid, FIND, Rutgers collaborate on Xpert MTB/RIF test

Cepheid, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based molecular diagnostics company, FIND, a Switzerland-based international nonprofit organization and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School are collaborating to develop Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra, a next-generation test for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) with increased sensitivity to aid in detection of patients with smear-negative TB, which often is associated with HIV co-infection. The collaboration also is receiving additional support from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the NIH.
