AstraZeneca has created a scientific review board that will act independently to assess requests from external researchers, which includes patient level data. The board of independent clinicians and academics has been established as part of AZ's commitment to the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) Responsible Data Sharing Principles, as well as the new EMA Clinical Trial Policy and Regulation.

23andMe, a personal genetics company based in Mountain View, Calif., has created a new therapeutics group and has named Richard Scheller, Ph.D., to lead it as chief science officer and head of therapeutics. Scheller retired in December 2014 from a 14-year career at Genentech, where he was executive vice president of research and early development.

New patient contact registry for rare eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases

The Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers (CEGIR) has launched a patient contact registry for individuals with eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGID), a group of rare diseases. The registry is located at www.rdcrn.org/CEGIR. Its purpose is to create a single, international database with information submitted by patients with EGID and their families. The database will enable CEGIR investigators to identify and recruit patients with EGID for new research studies for improving treatments and clinical care.
