Theravance has appointed Michael W. Aguiar as president and CEO effective August 15, and as a member of the board of directors effective immediately. Aguiar plans to continue to as Theravance's senior vice president and chief financial officer until his replacement is identified and appointed.

Leadley brings to HeartWare extensive strategic leadership, with more than 20 years of clinical and industry experience at life sciences firms, including QuintilesBoston Scientific and JenaValve Technology in Munich, where she spent the last three years as chief medical officer leading the company's clinical, regulatory, scientific and medical activities.

Polaris Partners has hired biopharmaceutical executive Amy Schulman as a venture partner, based out of Boston, Mass. Schulman, who most recently was general counsel, executive vice president and business unit lead of Pfizer consumer healthcare, will apply decades of experience to the Polaris healthcare portfolio. She also will assume the role of CEO of Arsia Therapeutics, an early stage Polaris-backed company co-founded by Dr. Robert Langer and Polaris partner Alan Crane.
