Redwood secures funding for drug development

Redwood Bioscience has secured funding from Takeda Ventures to further develop its precision protein-chemical engineering platform for drug conjugate optimization.  This funding will be applied to advancing Redwood's site specific protein modification technology for enhancing antibody-drug conjugates and peptide therapeutics.

PROLOR receives allowance for patent application

PROLOR Biotech has received a notice of allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) for a patent application covering the company’s CTP platform, which has the potential to extend the duration of activity of virtually all therapeutic proteins. The allowed claims cover CTP-modified compositions of a wide array of classes of therapeutic proteins, including hormones, high affinity protein ligands, proteins that induce or regulate an immune response, proteins that are involved with autocrine and paracrine activities and mimetics of these therapeutic proteins, as well as other types of proteins.

Zafgen receives $33 million in Series C financing

Zafgen, a pharmaceutical company, announced the closing of a $33 million Series C financing led by the existing investor syndicate, including Atlas Venture and Third Rock Ventures. The financing will be used to support development of Zafgen's pipeline and to advance its lead methionine aminopeptidase 2 (MetAP2) inhibitor for the treatment of severe obesity into phase II clinical studies.

Northwest Biotherapeutics has announced a $4.55 million equity investment by The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation.  The sale of newly issued common stock of the company to the foundation follows the investment of $3 million by investment funds managed by Whitebox Advisors. The foundation has been focused for a number of years on game-changing medical research and treatment breakthroughs.
