arGEN-X raises $37m in Series B financing

arGEN-X has closed a $37 million Series B fundraising round, which was oversubscribed. The fundraising was co-led by OrbiMed Advisors (USA) and Seventure Partners (France), with the existing shareholders Forbion Capital Partners, Credit Agricole Private Equity, LSP, BioGeneration Ventures, the Erasmus Biomedical Fund, Thuja Capital and VIB also participating. OrbiMed's founding partner, Dr Mike Sheffery, will join the arGEN-X Supervisory Board.

GenturaDx has created its scientific advisory board with three initial members: Dr. Keith Jerome, Dr. Steven Miller, and Dr. Gregory Tsongalis. The board will provide expert perspectives across science, laboratory medicine and the commercial market related to initial test development and future applications of the company's proprietary IDbox(TM). Portola Pharmaceutials secures $89 million in financing

Portola Pharmaceuticals has raised $89 million in a preferred stock financing. The financing round included existing investors who were joined by Temasek, an Asia investment company, and Eastern Capital Limited. Proceeds will be used primarily to advance betrixaban, a once-daily, oral Factor Xa inhibitor, through phase III clinical development and to advance development of its companion product, PRT064445, a recombinant Factor Xa inhibitor antidote designed to reverse anticoagulant activity in patients treated with Factor Xa inhibitors suffering major bleeds or requiring surgery. Portola plans to initiate a phase III betrixaban program to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in acute medically ill patients in the first half of 2012.
