MIMETAS appoints Todd Chappell general manager, U.S. Affairs

BioHealth Innovation (BHI) and MIMETAS, a developer of organ-on-a-chip technology for testing of new medicines in high-throughput on miniaturized organ and disease models, have announced Todd Chappell, MBA, an entrepreneur-in-residence for BHI, has been named general manager, U.S. Affairs for MIMETAS. A Netherlands-based company, MIMETAS is establishing its offices within BHI's headquarters in Rockville, Md. MIMETAS and BHI created a U.S. subsidiary of MIMETAS to access the clinical, regulatory and scientific resources available in Central Maryland and to access the U.S. marketplace, the largest life sciences market in the world.

American Diabetes Association, Lilly announce recipients of research award

The American Diabetes Association and Eli Lilly have announced the recipients of the American Diabetes Association and Lilly Clinical Research Award: Diabetes Care in Older Adults, a three-year collaborative research program aimed at better understanding diabetes care in older adults. The program, made possible through $1.2 million in funding from Lilly Diabetes, is awarding two clinical grants that will be directed, managed and overseen by the Association.

Dublin, Ireland-based Perrigo has announced the appointment of its board of directors, effective until Perrigo’s annual general meeting scheduled for November 2014. The appointment of the Perrigo board follows the completion of Perrigo’s acquisition of Elan in a cash and stock transaction valued at approximately $8.6 billion. The transaction will create a global healthcare company with a growth profile.
