Oracle Product Improves Transparency in Multi-site Trials

Oracle is releasing a new business intelligence system to help sponsors and CROs monitor multi-site clinical trials.

Oracle Clinical Development Analytics allows site monitors to look at a set of key performance metrics from multiple sites and use them to evaluate which sites are performing well and which sites may need more attention and training. Oracle said this type of monitoring usually requires multiple, complex technology systems.

“The current way that organizations deal with this is they buy what’s called a ‘toolkit’ from a business intelligence vendor, which could be someone like Oracle...That is a collection of technologies that they then have to employ a system integrator to come in and understand their specific business and build them a solution,” said Nick Giannasi, vice president, life sciences product strategy for Oracle Health Sciences. “We thought there was an opportunity to reduce the time and cost by providing a product rather than a consulting offering.”

The company released a test version of the system in November and expects a full rollout of the product by summer.

“Our approach for these products as a vision is to be an all-encompassing platform across clinical development, clinical trial development, clinical trial management, safety to provide relevant metrics on real-time data in a format that users can actually use,” Giannasi said. “We think that transparency is not only needed for operational efficiencies but in terms of improving and maintaining the relationship between and a site and a sponsor or a site and a CRO. Having that transparency and trust is really a significant way of improving and maintaining that relationship.”
