Canadian Health Authorities Helping to Keep Phase I Research in Canada

With an influx of emerging biotechnology companies—more than 80 to date—Alberta would seem a place for an early phase clinical trials market to take hold. Yet until recently there were no phase I units in this province of three million people. Now in partnership with the city of Edmonton, the Northern Alberta Clinical Trials Research Center (NACTRC) has launched Albertas first phase I unit, staying true to its stated mission to foster more clinical research in the region.

Taratec Acquired by Patni Computer Systems

Mumbai-based information technology (IT) services and software provider Patni Computer Systems has acquired Taratec, a life sciences regulatory and IT consulting firm based in Bridgewater, N.J. The firm was acquired for $27.2 million. Taratec has a staff of 150 and annual revenues of more than $20 million.
