To assess the mucosal immune response to genital herpes simplex virus before and after treatment and determine if cervicovaginal fluid from herpes-infected women affects HIV in vitro
We are seeking Female Volunteers with Active Genital Herpes
Lesions.
We are looking for women ages 18-50 with active genital herpes
lesions who are willing to donate a sample of their vaginal fluid
for a research study. The purpose of this study is to see if
treating genital herpes causes a change in the cells in the vagina
that protect against infection.
Subjects will be reimbursed for time and travel. Your part in the

Patient Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:
Women ages 18-50 with active genital lesions.
Able and willing to provide informed consent to participate in the
study.
Agree to abstain from sexual intercourse and to not douche or use
vaginal products for the duration of the study ( two weeks), agree
to anti HSV- therapy
Pregnant, breastfeeding, menopausal.
HIV, Anti- HSV therapy in the past 2 weeks. Currently menstruating
at time of visit. Concurrent vaginitis, UTI or STI including
Bacterial Vaginosis, trichomoniasis, candidiasis, chlamydia,
gonorrhea or syphilis within one month prior to or at screening.
Intercourse within 48 hours of enrollment. Hypersensitivity to
acyclovir.
