Trial Information

CTSU/NCCTG:N0147 A Randomized Phase III Trial of Oxaliplatin (OXAL) Plus 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU)/Leucovorin (CF) with or w/o Cetuximab (C225) After Curative Resection for Patients with Stage III Colon Cancer

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have Stage III colon cancer that has been surgically removed The purpose of this study is to find out if adding Cetuximab to FOLFOX can increase the effectiveness of FOLFOX in preventing your cancer from returning and to determine which chemotherapy combination is best to use in terms of preventing cancer from returning, with the fewest side effects, and best quality of life (feelings of overall health and ability to continue with daily routine).  We will also be looking to see if there is an interaction between your lifestyle habits, medication use, or dietary patterns and the molecular make up of your tumor and to see if your eating habits affect the chance of your cancer returning.  We will look at markers in tissue or blood specimens obtained from you to determine whether these markers can be used to predict whether your tumor responds to chemotherapy or the chance that your cancer will return. Your treatment in this study is expected to last for 24 weeks, after that your condition will be followed every six months for five years and every year after that for a total of eight years.
