A Randomized Phase III Study of Paclitaxel + Cisplatin versus Vinorelbine + Cisplatin versus Gemcitabine + Cisplatin versus Topotecan + Cisplatin in Stage IVB, Recurrent or Persistent Carcinoma of the Cervix [GOG0204]
This is research study for women who have a malignant cervical
tumor which cannot be cured by surgery or radiation therapy. The
purpose of this research study is to determine the best
chemotherapy drug to be given with cisplatin. Chemotherapy with
cisplatin and paclitaxel is the standard treatment for cancer of
the cervix in this situation. The study drugs used in this study
are vinorelbine, gemcitabine and topotecan. Study participants have
an equal chance of being placed in any one of the following 4
groups:
1) cisplatin + paclitaxel
2) cisplatin + vinorelbine
3) cisplatin + gemcitabine
4) cisplatin + topotecan

Patient Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:
You may be eligible to participate if you
-are 18 years of age or older
-have been diagnosed with a malignant cervical tumor which cannot
be cured by surgery or radiation therapy
-meet additional criteria
You are not eligible for this study if you
-are pregnant or breastfeeding
-currently have another type of cancer other than skin cancer
-have been previously treated with chemotherapy except when used in
addition to radiation therapy
