Research Study Summary

Washington University seeks participants age 50 or older for a vaccine study!


The purpose of the study is to examine the effectiveness and tolerability of a vaccine for C-diff infection in participants age 50 or older. This study is expected to last between 18 and 42 months and will require 5 office visits within the first 7 months. Participation includes 3 injections of the study vaccine within 6 months. You will be given an electronic diary and asked to record symptoms you might be having. If you have diarrhea 3 more times within 24 hours, you will be asked to collect a sample of the diarrhea. We will provide a kit for this and arrange for a courier to collect the sample. Risks and benefits will be discussed with volunteers as part of the informed consent process $50.00 per visit is provided for time and effort (IRB # 201703117).

  • Participants must be at least 50 years old
  • Participants must be at risk for developing C-diff (Clostridium difficile) infection (recent hospitalizations, ER visits, or residence in a nursing home OR have received oral or injected antibiotics at any time in the previous 12 weeks)
