Eligibility

Do you suffer from 3 to 8 migraines per month? Were you diagnosed more than a year ago? Do you have cardiovascular risk factors, too? Then consider joining SPARTAN - a clinical study to assess a potential new migraine medication for people like you.

Can I take part in this important study?

We're looking for people over 18 years of age who experience 3 to 8 migraines per month to take part. We'd especially like to hear from migraine sufferers with at least one of the following cardiovascular risk factors (but ALL migraine sufferers are welcome to contact us):

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • A smoker
  • Overweight
  • Diabetes
  • Family history of coronary artery disease
  • Female and post-menopause
  • Male and over 40 years of age

If you'd like to take part, we'll arrange a clinic visit to check that you and the study are a good fit.

At this visit, we'll:
  • Ask you about your health
  • Check your heart
  • Take a blood sample
  • Collect a urine sample
  • Give you a dosing card containing tablets of either the study medication or an inactive placebo (at no cost)
  • Give you an electronic diary to record information about the migraine you treat with study drug along with migraine symptoms during your migraine

Within one week of this visit, we'll contact you by telephone to tell you if you're suitable for the study. If you are, we'll ask you to treat your next migraine using the tablets provided and remind you how to use the diary. After this migraine (or 8 weeks later if you don't have one), you'll have a final check-up. That's 2 visits in total. Please note - you'll also need to have a second clinic visit if you're not suitable. This is so that you can return the tablets and diary.
