Research Study Summary

NSABP DMP-1 A Study to Evaluate Different Decision-Making Approaches Used by Women Known to be at Increased Risk for Breast Cancer

Purpose

Women who are at increased risk for breast cancer may want to consider options for reducing their risk of breast cancer. An option for some women is taking the prescription drugs tamoxifen (Nolvadex®) or raloxifene (Evista®). The main purpose of this study is to find out what affects a woman’s decision about how to deal with her breast cancer risk.

Patient Inclusion Criteria:

  • Women > 35 yoa
  • Involves a questionnaire for the participant & the healthcare professional.
  • Pt must be at increased risk for breast ca defined by MD/healthcare pro & not necessarily by a Gail score.
  • Breast ca risk & use of SERMs for risk reduction must have been discussed in the counseling session.
  • Pts must be approached about participation in the study AFTER the counseling session on the same day of the counseling session

Patient Exclusion Criteria:

  • Women less than 35 years of age
  • Pt must be at increased risk for breast ca defined by MD/healthcare pro & not necessarily by a Gail score.
