Trial Information

Assessment of Changes in Inflammatory Cytokines and Downstream Mediators of Prostate Carcinogenesis in Patients Receiving Radiation Therapy for Localized Prostate Cancer

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have been diagnosed with intermediate- or high-risk prostate cancer.  To be eligible for this protocol, you must have discussed this diagnosis with your doctors.  Furthermore, you and your doctors must have decided upon a plan for you to receive radiation therapy (removal to the prostate) without hormone therapy to treat your cancer prior to considering this protocol.  The purpose of this study is four-fold: (1) to determine if blood levels of a specific molecules in the bloodstream (IL-6 and STAT3) changes during the course of treatment, (2) to determine if changes in the quantity of a specific type of blood cell (termed an MDSC) change during the course of treatment, and (3) to determine how DNA from cells change during the course of treatment. Your participation on this study may last approximately 3 months.    During this time, you may be asked to provide additional blood for research at the time your physician orders blood draws to assess for toxicity from radiation therapy; up to a total of 6 research blood samples will be requested.
