Trial Information

Pharmacologic Reversal of Ventricular Remodeling in Childhood Cancer Survivors at Risk for Congestive Heart Failure (PREVENT-CHF): A Phase IIB Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial

You have/your child has been asked to participate in this research study because you are/your child is a survivor of childhood cancer who received anthracycline chemotherapy at a young age.  Anthracyclines are a group of chemotherapy drugs that, if given at high doses, may cause a serious condition called congestive heart failure.  7Congestive heart failure occurs when the heart muscle has been weakened and can’t pump blood as well as it should.  The purpose of this study is to compare two years of a low-dose medication called carvedilol to placebo (identical looking drug containing no medicine) in terms of effects on laboratory tests and other evaluations associated with the risk of congestive heart failure.  Another purpose is to measure the safety and tolerability of carvedilol according to laboratory tests and information on side effects collected from questionnaires. Your/your child’s participation in this study is expected to last about two years.
