Urinary Tract Study for Females suffering from moderate to severe pain and burning upon urination

Phase three, randomized, double-blind, multi center, parallel-group placebo-controlled study in females with a UTI to evaluate the efficacy of Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride Tablets, UPS 200mg for the symptomatic relief of moderate to severe pain and burning upon urination. Patients will be randomized in a 1 to 1 ratio to receive either the study drug or a placebo every eight hours over a 24 hour period. The study is a 24 to 72 hour study from time of patient consent through the final contact.

Patient Inclusion Criteria:
Females 18 and over who have a diagnosis of UTI presenting with pain and burning upon urination. Positive UTI dipstick confirmation required for study entry.

Patient Exclusion Criteria:
Women pregnant or breast feeding are excluded. non UTI diagnosis per dipstick are excluded. Use of any anti-infectives or pain medications one day prior to study start is excluded.Chronic infections excluded as are any known history of genitourinary anomalies or surgery with in 6 months prior to study start.
