Trial Information

A Prospective Investigation of the Use of the Fluorescence Imaging on the da Vinci Surgical System for Intraoperative Near Infrared Imaging of Renal Cortical Tumors

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have chosen to undergo a robot-assisted laparoscopic removal of your kidney tumor using the da Vinci Surgical System. The purpose of this study is to evaluate if the visualized fluorescence (light from a substance that has absorbed energy from another source) of indocyanine green (ICG), a special dye, can improve operative techniques during robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (removal of part of a kidney containing a tumor). The study will determine the optimal dose of ICG to use to detect kidney tumors using near infrared (NIR) imaging technology with the da Vinci Surgical System. Secondary endpoints of the study would be to determine the impact of using NIR with the da Vinci Surgical System on the length of surgery, the length of time the kidney blood vessel needs to be clamped during surgery, blood loss during surgery, length of hospitalization, removal of tumor and other details related to partial nephrectomy. Data collected from research participants undergoing surgery using NIR with the da Vinci Surgical System will be compared to data from surgeries not using this technology. Your participation in this study is expected to last only 1-2 weeks after surgery, but you will need to continue follow-up with either one of our urologists or an outside urologist of your choosing for cancer monitoring purposes.
