Trial Information

Pro Inflammatory Cytokines and Neurobehavioral Symptoms in Women with Breast Cancer

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you are a post-menopausal woman newly diagnosed with breast cancer. The purpose of this study is to better understand if behavioral symptoms (such as mood, energy/fatigue level) and cognitive (thinking) functions (such as memory, attention) in women with breast cancer are related to pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are chemicals in the blood stream that are involved in the body’s defensive reaction against foreign substances, such as a virus, bacteria, infection, etc. One of our goals is to compare information from different groups of post-menopausal women, as we expect some differences based on their health status. We would like to compare women diagnosed with breast cancer to a group with non-malignant breast conditions and to a group of healthy women. Your participation in this study involves two sessions with a member of our research team over the course of a few months. The first session will occur before you start your cancer treatments (chemotherapy and/or radiation), and the second session will be after you have completed treatment. Each of these sessions will be scheduled at your convenience and is expected to last for about 60 - 70 minutes.
