Research Study Summary
Heart Disease Prevention Study
Have you ever had a heart attack? Rainier Clinical Research Center is seeking participants (who previously have had a heart attack) for a research study of an investigational medication that may stop future cardiovascular problems and hopefully stop the future onset of diabetes. This study medication is already FDA approved for treating other inflammatory disorders.
Three out of every four of the participants will be given the study medication, one out every four of the participants will be given a placebo. All other medications participants may be taking will not be altered during this study. This study could last about 4.5 years and will require at least 23 clinic visits.

- Must have had a previous heart attack
- Must not have a previous diagnosis of Tuberculosis.
- Must not have any planned cardiac surgical procedures.
- Must meet other entry criteria.
Patients will receive the study medication, study-related care including physical exams, EKG’s, and lab work at no cost. In addition, patients will receive financial compensation of $24 for the first visit and $40 for completion of each in-clinic visit; for a total of $944 for study completion.
