Meningitis Vaccine Research

Radiant Research providing state required vaccines along with an Investigational Vaccine for children aged 10-12 as part of research study

Tucson, AZ - Adolescents and teens have been shown to be at a somewhat increased chance of getting meningitis. The state of Arizona requires all 6 th, 7th and 8th grade students to receive both the FDA approved Meningococcal (MCV4) and Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) vaccines to be enrolled in public schools. This fall, Radiant Research - Tucson will be conducting an investigational clinical drug trial for qualified participants, ages 10 to 12. The investigational vaccine called rLP2086, is for the prevention of a 5th meningitis type, which is not covered in the FDA approved vaccine.

Qualified subjects will be placed in one of 3 study groups in a random process, like flipping a coin. Subjects could receive one, two or all 3 of the following study vaccinations depending on the group they are assigned: Menactra ® (meningitis vaccine), Adacel ® (Tdap vaccine) and the investigational vaccine, rLP2086. There are a total of 7 study visits which includes a 6 month follow up period.

All participants will receive the AZ state required vaccines for meningitis and Tdap for entrance into 6th grade next year.

There is no cost to participate in the trial and subjects who enter the study will be compensated $50 for each study visit for study related costs such as gas and parking.
