The Effect of Resveratrol in Older Adults with Impaired Glucose Tolerance

The purpose of this research study is to find out if resveratrol has beneficial effects on blood sugar levels and blood vessel function in adults with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), which is also called "pre-diabetes". For the purpose of this research study "pre-diabetes" means that you have high blood sugar following a sweet drink (glucose tolerance test), but not high enough to be considered diabetic. Everyone who participates in this research study will receive active treatment with resveratrol 5,000 mg for 6 weeks and placebo (a pill with no active ingredient) treatment for 6 weeks.

Inclusion criteria:

  • Subjects must be between ages 50 and 80.
  • Subjects must be in good health.

Exclusion criteria:

  • Subjects must not have diabetes.
