Assessment of the Relationship Between Changes in PSA and Peripheral pStat3 Levels, MDSC Quantity and VKOR Mutation in Castrate Resistant Prostate Cancer

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have been diagnosed with metastatic (cancer that has spread) prostate cancer that is unresponsive to standard hormonal treatments. The purpose of this study is three-fold: (1) to determine if changes in blood levels of a specific molecule in the bloodstream (STAT3) are related to changes in levels of PSA, (2) to determine if changes in the quantity of a specific type of blood cell (termed an MDSC) is related changes in PSA, and (3) to determine if a particular gene mutation (in the VKOR gene) may be related to changes in PSA. Your participation on this study may last for up to two years. During this time, you may be asked to provide blood draws at any time your physician orders a blood draw for PSA.
