Therapeutic Areas: Pulmonary/Respiratory Diseases | Otolaryngology | Immunology/Infectious Diseases
Disease Category: Allergies & Asthma
Trial Information
Evaluation of an investigational study drug’s efficacy and safety in patients with good lung capacity and who have been diagnosed as having allergic asthma.
Subjects will be screened for good lung function, adequate medical histories, and sensitivity to certain allergens. Maximum length of participation is 28 weeks. Enrollment and randomization (like tossing a coin to determine which treatment course each subject will take) follows the screening period. Patients will receive either study drug or a placebo (inactive product) every 4 or every 2 weeks and can remain on their current inhaled corticosteroids, with or without other controller asthma medications. Study participants will receive all study-related medical evaluations and the investigational study drug at no cost. Steroids and other controller asthma medications used during the study will not be paid by the study and will remain the responsibility of the patient.
Inclusion Criteria Includes:
- You are between the ages of 12 to 75
- You have been diagnosed with allergic asthma with sensitivity to certain allergens
- You have good lung function (as determined by medical tests run by your doctor)
- You are currently taking inhaled corticosteroids, and are still experiencing symptoms.
- You have a documented history of asthma.
- If you are a female of childbearing potential, use an effective method of birth control (in the opinion of the investigator) to prevent pregnancy for the duration of the study.
Exclusion Criteria Includes:
- Are pregnant or lactating
- Have a lifetime history of smoking >10-pack years
- Have active lung disease
- Have a significant medical illness other than asthma
*Other criteria for participation do apply, and will be reviewed by your doctor. Additional information, including possible risks and benefits of participation will be reviewed by your doctor.
