Episodic Tension Headache - Adults
People who get tension headaches are asked to participate in a research study being conducted by Montefiore Medical Center.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:
- Are at least 18 years of age, up to 65 years old
- Have tension-type headaches with moderate pain, usually more than twice a month and that last more than 4 hours if untreated, but the pain will go away with over-the-counter pain medications
- Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) within the range 18 to 30 (normal weight to overweight, but not obese)
- Are in good general health
You may not participate in this study if you:
- Have ongoing tension type headaches more than 15 days per month for 3 months
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to become pregnant during the study
- Have allergy to, can’t tolerate or are unable to use any of the study medications or their ingredients (e.g. ibuprofen, aspirin, acetaminophen, and caffeine).
- Have a psychiatric disease that requires treatment, a significant mental disorder, or any ongoing pain disorder
- Have a history of alcohol or other substance abuse within the last two years
- Have participated in another research study or plan to participate in one during the time of this study
