Trial Information

The Immune Response in Blood Cells of Healthy Volunteers

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the production of cytokines by peripheral blood monocytes in healthy and obese subjects who are vitamin D sufficient.

Participation involves:

  • 1 screening visit
  • 1 study visit
  • fasting overnight (only for the study visit) and 2 blood draws (about 5 tablespoons total)

You may qualify if you are:

  • between the ages of 18 - 65
  • male
  • nonsmoking

Exclusion criteria:

  • current tobacco smoking
  • gastrointestinal disease resulting in significant gastrointestinal dysfunction or malabsorption
  • taking any prescription medications.
  • baseline hypercalcemia from any cause
  • history of bariatric surgery
  • history, physical, or laboratory findings suggestive of any other medical or psychological condition that would, in the opinion of the principal investigator, make the candidate ineligible for the study
  • symptoms of infection in the previous 4 weeks.
