Research Study Summary

Current treatment not controlling your Diabetes?

Purpose

This is a 26 week, Phase 4 randomized, open label, parallel group, treat-to-target once daily treatment study for insulin detemir vs. insulin glargine, both in combination with metformin (at least 1500 mg) and/or may be on 1 other OAD. There are 9 office visits and 19 phone calls. You may be compensated for each completed visit for your time and travel upon completion of study.

Patient Inclusion Criteria:

  • Male/Female 18 and older
  • BMI lower than 35
  • Must be diagnosed with DM II for at least 6 months
  • Must be on a stable dose of Metformin (1500 mg)
  • HbA1c must be 7.0-9.0%
  • Females must be willing to use adequate form of birth control

Patient Exclusion Criteria:

  • Must not have any unstable medical conditions(renal, hepatic, HTN, clinically significant disease)
  • Must not have any cardiac, unstable angina pectoris, MI within the past 6 months
  • Must not have proliferative retinopathy or macular edema requiring acute treatment
  • Drug or alcohol abuse
  • Previously participated in this trial
  • Used an investigational drug within the past 4 weeks
