A Randomized Open Label, Multi-Center Phase II Study to Compare Bevacizumab Plus RAD001 Versus Interferon Alfa-2A Plus Bevacizumab for the First-Line Treatment of Patients with Metastatic Clear Cell Carcinoma of the Kidney

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have advanced kidney cancer. The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the study drug RAD001 in combination with bevacizumab compared to bevacizumab combined with interferon alfa-2a. The side effects of both drug combinations will also be studied. Blood samples and tumor biopsies will be obtained for laboratory tests to study the effect of the drug on tumor cells. Another purpose is to determine the quality of life of subjects receiving the treatments given on this study. Your treatment on this study is expected to last for as long as your tumor is not growing and you are not having any unmanageable side effects. After your treatment on this study is over, your medical condition will continue to be followed indefinitely.
