Trial Information

Phase I Trial of Intraperitoneal nab-Paclitaxel (Abraxane) in the Treatment of Advanced Malignancies Primarily Confined to the Peritoneal Cavity

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have advanced cancer primarily located in the abdomen (stomach area). The purpose of this study is to determine the highest possible dose of the investigational drug nab-paclitaxel (Abraxane®) that can be given directly into the abdomen (IP – intraperitoneal) before unmanageable side effects are seen. Repeated blood and peritoneal fluid samples will be taken before and after the first dose of Abraxane® is given to study the levels of Abraxane® that stay in the body over time. Tumor samples from diagnosis and fluid from the abdomen will be obtained for laboratory tests to study the effect of the drug on tumor cells. Another purpose is to determine if there is an increase or recurrence (side effect returns) of nerve damage such as numbness and tingling in subjects who are treated with Abraxane®, especially in subjects who have received other chemotherapy that causes this side effect. Your treatment on this study is expected to last until your disease worsens or you have unmanageable side effects. After your treatment on this study is over, your medical condition will continue to be followed indefinitely.
