Trial Information
An Open Pilot Study of Varenicline (Chantix) in Adult Smokers with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Effects on ADHD and Cigarette Smoking
Do you have problems concentrating, sitting still, or paying attention? Do you smoke cigarettes and want to stop? If so, you may be eligible to participate in an 8-week research study for adults ages 18-60 conducted by the Psychopharmacology Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital.
This study is designed to examine whether a medication approved by the FDA to quit smoking will help individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In order to be eligible for this study, you must not be taking any other drug therapy for your ADHD during this study. The study clinician will tell you how and when to stop safely.
Participants will receive an evaluation, assessments and follow-up visits at no cost. Participants will be responsible for the cost of study medication, which costs about the same as buying a pack of cigarettes a day.
