Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease- Adults
Adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) are asked to participate in a research study being conducted by North Shore Long Island Jewish.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:
- Are male or female outpatients at least 40 years of age
- Are a current or former cigarette smoker with smoking history of at least 10 pack-years patients smoking other tobacco types will not be allowed unless they meet the cigarette criterion as well
- Are able to perform reproducible pulmonary function testing
- Understand the study procedures and are willing to participate in the study as indicated by signing the informed consent
You may not participate in this study if you:
- Have been hospitalized for an acute COPD exacerbation within 3 months prior to Visit 1
- Have any respiratory infection
- Are a female pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have uncontrolled infection resulting from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and / or active hepatitis
- Have a history (within the previous 5 years) of drug or alcohol abuse
- Have a current diagnosis of cancer other than basal or squamous cell skin cancer
