SURGE: Study Utilizing Rilonacept in Gout Exacerbations. A medical research study evaluating an investigational medicine for gout flares, and the pain associated with them.
This study is evaluating an investigational medication for the relief of pain associated with acute gout flares. The medication is rilonacept, and it is a recombinant fusion protein. Although rilonacept is not currently approved for the treatment of gout, it is approved for the treatment of other conditions. Qualified patients will be randomly assigned to receive either rilonacept alone, rilonacept in combination with indomethacin (a drug approved for the treatment of gout attacks), or indomethacin alone. Participation in the SURGE study could last a total of 5 weeks, with up to 5 visits to the study clinic. Qualified participants will receive study medicine as well as study-related medical evaluations at no cost. Reimbursement for time and travel may also be available.
