Wyeth Hot Flash / Menopause Study

This study is testing the effectiveness and safety of an experimental drug, DVS SR (tablet), to treat vasomotor symptoms- like hot flashes, night sweats and all other symptoms associated with menopause. We are looking for women who are at least 45 years old who are post menopausal. This is a double blind, randomized placebo controlled study. (No one will know which drug you have) You will have a 50% chance of receiving any one of these study drugs. The experimental drug is called desvenlafaxine succinate sustained release (DVS SR), which means that once it’s swallowed it’s released slowly into the bloodstream. DVS SR is related to the antidepressant venlafaxine. The purpose of the study is to obtain information about how safe and effective the DVS SR is for treating all vasomotor symptoms (VMS) associated with menopause. *Fasting for blood work and an eye exam is also included in this study. (needs to be at least 6 months without period)
