Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
We are conducting a clinical research study for volunteers diagnosed with Diabetes (Type 1 or 2) experiencing painful neuropathy for at least 6 months. This study lasts 18-23 weeks with up to 9 clinic visits.
Study Criteria:
- Age 18-70
- Diagnosed with Type 1 or 2 Diabetes
- Presence of pain due to Diabetic peripheral neuropathy for at least 6 months
- Stable blood glucose for at least 3 months
- No presence of other painful conditions that could affect the assessment of the pain due to DPN such as peripheral vascular disease, fibromyalgia, etc. or amputations due to diabetes.
- No previous history of taking pregabalin (Lyrica) for any reason and must be willing to wash out of all analgesic (pain) medications used for DPN.Allergic or adverse reaction to gabapentin (Neurotin, pregabalin (Lyrica) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).
- Cannot have failed previous adequate trials with at least 2 of the following: gabapentin (Neurotin), pregabalin (Lyrica) or duloxetine (Cymbalta)
- BMI (body mass index) must be 40 or less
- No history of severe psychiatric disorder, seizure disorder or any procedures (gastric bypass) that could affect absorption or metabolism
- No investigational drug within 30 days
- No pregnant or lactating women
- No drug or alcohol abuse in the past 5 years
If eligible, you will receive investigational drug and study-related medical care at no cost. Reimbursement for time and travel may also be available.
