If you suffer from pain after shingles (herpes zoster), join our study and help us find efficient treatment.
This clinical trial measures the efficacy and safety of an experimental drug in treatment of pain caused by shingles.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Are at least 18 years old - Females must not be pregnant
- have had a diagnosis of PHN and associated pain for at least 3 months.
- Are able to stop taking other treatments for PHN while in the study. The only exclusion to this is small doses of opioids, which patients can still take during the study.
- On a scale of 1-10,(one being minimal and ten being the worst pain in their life), patient must have an average pain level of 4/10.
- Able to provide written informed consent prior to participation in the study.
Exclusion Criteria
- Other chronic pain conditions at the site of the shingles infection.
- Unable to discontinue prohibited medications.
- Liver impairment including chronic Hepatitis B or C
- Impaired kidney function
- Heart disease as defined by abnormal EKG
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Epilepsy or any seizure disorder requiring therapy with antiepileptic drugs
- Active significant psychiatric disorder including dementia, general anxiety disorder, psychosis, bipolar disorder or depression.
- history of clinically significant alcohol or drug abuse.
- Currently participating in another clinical trial.
- Has been previously treated with the study drug trial
- Has a history of an allergic reaction to the following medications: gabapentin, acetaminophen(Tylenol), or compounds closed related to acetaminophen.
