Characterization of Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs) to Direct Pre-Operative and Systemic Therapy in Patients with Locally Advanced or Metastatic Stage IV Breast Cancer

You have been asked to participate in this research because you are over the age of 18 and are being treated for breast cancer at the City of Hope or Stanford University. The purpose of this study is to identify tumor cells in the bloodstream (Circulating Tumor Cells, CTCs) from your breast cancer. Your participation in this study is expected to go on indefinitely if you are being treated for metastatic (your disease has spread to other parts of your body) breast cancer. Your participation in this study is expected to last your lifetime or until you withdraw your consent to participate. The specimens collected from you will continue to be used in research studies as long as there are specimens left.
