Clinical trial to test a study drug Staphylococcus aureus Vaccine (V710) in Adult Patients Scheduled for Cardiothoracic Surgery.
The purpose of this experimental study is to: Test the ability of V710 to prevent serious S. aureus infections in the bloodstream or in the chest wound after your open-heart surgery, before your open-heart surgery and to test the ability of V710 to cause an immune response (the ability of the body to fight infection after vaccination).
Study drug and study procedures will be made available to you at no cost.
To qualify, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Scheduled to undergo cardiothoracic surgery
You will not qualify if you:
- Are pregnant or breast-feeding
- Have received a live virus vaccine within 30 days prior to receipt of the study vaccine or is scheduled to receive any live virus vaccine within 30 days post vaccination
- Have participated in another clinical trial in the 4 weeks prior to study entry, or plans to participate in a treatment-based trial or another trial in which an invasive procedure is to be performed, at any time through postoperative Day 90.
