To compare the efficacy and safety of fentanyl buccal tablet to immediate release oxycodone in treating break through pain in opioid tolerant patients with chronic pain
Millennium Pain Center is looking for potential subjects to participate in a clinical research study for people who currently have chronic pain, on opioid therapy and experiencing at least 1 break through pain episodes per day.
The study last approximately 5 months and consist of 9 clinic visits. Study related medication, study related exams and lab work are provided to participants in this trial. Compensation is available to qualified participants for each completed visit for time and travel.
Patient Inclusion Criteria
- Be between 18 and 80 years of age.
- Have experienced chronic pain for at least 3 months.
- Already using opioid (e.g. morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, etc.) therapy to treat pain.
- Experiencing 1 but no more than 5 break through pain episodes per day.
- Be able to comply with study requirements.
- Are in otherwise general good health.
Patient Exclusion Criteria
- Have uncontrolled pain.
- Have a history of suicidal ideation or attempt within past 2 years.
- Expecting to have surgery in the near future.
- Have been diagnosed or treated for malignant cancer within the past 2 years.
- Have an active litigation due to in regard to the chronic pain currently being treated.
