Adjuvant Sorafenib or Sunitinib for Unfavorable Renal Carcinoma
The purpose of this study is to determine if either Sunitinib or Sorafenib can prevent recurrence of kidney cancer and to compare the effects (both good and bad) of the Sunitinib and the Sorafenib with Placebo (pills that look like the study drugs, but are inactive or do not contain the drug) on the patient and the patient's kidney cancer to see which is better.
Patient Inclusion Criteria:
- Renal (Kidney) cell carcinoma eligible for nephrectomy with curative intent
- Age > 18 years
- No prior cancers within 5 years
- No serious intercurrent illness
Patient Exclusion Criteria:
- Hypertension (elevated bldoo pressure) not controlled with medications
- HIV positive
Primary Outcomes: To demonstrate an improvement in disease-free survival in locally advanced renal cell carcinoma
Key Secondary Outcomes: To compare overall survival between the two regimens
