UVa Health System, Department of Neurology, seeks Woman and Men with Parkinsons Disease for research study.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate whether creatine is more effective than placebo in slowing clinical worsening in patients with Parkinsons Disease. The study involves taking creatine or placebo twice a day, blood draws, assessment of Parkinsons symptoms, completion of surveys, and testing of thinking skills. Participants are seen initially every 3 months, extending to every 6 months, some of which are phone visits. The trial last for at least 5 years. Clinic visits are at the Fontaine Adult Neurology Clinic. Participants must be within 5 years of their diagnosis and have been treated with levodopa or a dopamine agonist for less than 2 years.
Study-related exams, tests and experimental medication provided free of charge.
