Trial Information

A study on how weight loss surgery causes low sugar levels after meals

This study is investigating the major factors that control blood glucose (sugar), including GLP-1, which is a hormone released from the intestine after meals, and increases insulin secretion. Insulin is the main hormone that controls the level of glucose in the blood.

Participants will be asked to visit the clinical research center at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital or the VA Medical Center up to 4 sessions for a period of 1-2 months. Each session may take up to 5 hours, for which the participant will be compensated.

Patient Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age 18 and older
  • Men and women who have had gastric bypass surgery
  • Must suffer from any of the following symptoms without taking any medications for diabetes: severe hunger, nervousness and shakiness, perspiration, dizziness or light-headedness, sleepiness, confusion, difficulty speaking, or feeling anxious or weak
  • Patient Exclusion Criteria:

    • Currently taking medications for diabetes
