Trial Information
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Bone & Joint Hospital Research Department, in conjunction with McBride rheumatologists and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, is looking for patients with RA who have had inadequate response to Methotrexate therapy. The purpose of the new study is to determine the efficacy of the investigational drug Rituximab in preventing progression of structural joint damage, as measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
You may be eligible for participation if the following criteria are met:
- Active Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Age 18-80 years
- Currently on a stable dose of Methotrexate
- Have never received treatment with a biologic agent for RA
The main goal of the study is to evaluate MRI as a method of measuring treatment outcome in RA.
In the early part of the study, intravenous (into the vein) infusions of either Rituximab or placebo (such as a saline or dummy solution) will be given. In the retreatment portion of the study (after Week 24), all patients that qualify to receive additional treatment will receive Rituximab.
Eligible patients will receive study medication and study-related treatment at no charge. Participation also involves a minimum of four (4) standard MRI evaluations of the dominant hand and wrist throughout the study. An optional additional part of the study requires four (4) MRIs with a small (C-scan) MRI machine for comparison. Participants receive a stipend for completion of the MRI visits.
