Why is this research study being conducted?

• One of the most challenging treatment issues in diabetes is keeping a patient's blood sugar under good control.
• It is very important for diabetes patients to keep their blood sugar level so they can stay healthy.
• This research study will test whether an investigational drug helps diabetes patients who are taking metformin (Glucophage) to keep their blood sugar on the level.
